Aussie Election soundtrack & music video thread….

with 5 comments

Just breathe, it’s all gunna be foine.

The ever-on-to-it PossCom has had a great idea – an Open Edition Election Thread of Angst & Therapy.

*using Holden-driving FM radio announcer voice* “Whether it’s a before- or after-party, this’ll keep your virtual loungeroom kicking on. Because what’s a virtual lounge room without a soundtrack? A virtual loungeroom…without a soundtrack.”

But I digress. What’s on your playlist as Earmunch stares down Hatepig?

Some of these are obvious, some maybe not. All should be more fun with coffee than Laurie Oakes. What I’ve got in mind so far is:

Chuck Berry – Johnny B. Goode (mainly for that bit of the chorus “go go, go Johnny, go. Go, GO!”

The Residents – It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s Man’s World (on the money whoever wins, as long as Janette doesn’t get back in)

Combat WombatAlternative Energy (coz we’ll hopefully have some after Saturday…. Actually, that works on a few levels… even if there’s no vid for that particular song yet)

Slayer – Angel of Death/Raining Blood (dedicated to every Coalition minister who loses their seat… and to the increase in suicides next week if they hold on to government). Was also leaning toward Seasons in the Abyss… or Mandatory Suicide… but then I found this 8-bit version of Angel of Death – which is kind of like death metal fellating Pac Man. Outstanding!!!)

Diamanda Galas – Gloomy Sunday (what i hope we don’t have… but will be playing this at 200 decibels if we do)

The Residents – Third Reich ‘n’ Roll (as above)

Devo – R U Experienced? (going out to the had-better-damned-well-be NEW Prime Minister. Those three words go together sooooo well, and this clip…. fuggedabowdit!)

Dead Kennedys – Holiday in Cambodia (again a double-header: if the Coalition wins a lot of people will be taking one of these, and Australia will feel like this song for everybody left behind)

Cyrius01Bennelong Time (since a PM got rolled!)

Jimi Hendrix – Hey Joe (Hockey, where you goin’ with that gun in your hand? Oh… You’re going to shoot some Channel Ten newsreaders in the face and then blow your brains out? Sweeeeet!! Please, go right ahead.)

Ms. Dynamite – Put him out (in case you’re having second thoughts based on fear of change and high tides)

Immortal Technique – F#$% You! (goes with this jpeg)

PJ Harvey – Happy & Bleeding (expectations of the victory dance after too goddam many years of our country being run by Mr Magoo/Sheen, represented by Piglet, and modelled on a private school for white things-with-dicks.)

Public Enemy – Final Count of the Collision Beteen Us & the Damned (coz ‘Fight the Power’ is too obvious…. and Kevin Rudd isn’t Chuck D. . . although Julia Gillard might be.)

John Cooper Clarke – Evidently Chickentown (check the lyrics… this one needs no explanation!)

Immortal TechniqueBin Laden (the Bust Bush 9-11 rmx w. Mos Def…. fully sick!)

BigBobFromBronte – time to go (totally infectious…. but in that good way, not like Paris Hilton – worms – or Arctic Monkeys – earworms -)

MediacracyOff the air (again, a different vid but… kind of speaks for itself)

Sepultura – Propaganda (this one’s going out to the retiring candidate for Lindsay and her unsuccessful successor. Oh, and Caroline Overington. And News Limited. And Annabel Crab. Et Cetera.)

Immortal Technique – The Poverty of Philosophy (Hell yeah he gets 3 tracks in. If you’re still listening, y r u complaining? 🙂 )

Devo – Working in a coal mine (a happy little number about John Howard’s future job prospects. Oops, I forgot. He’s been working for the coal industry for 12 years now.)

Oh shit. I nearly forgot…

more suggestions?

  1. Aussie Election soundtrack & video thread….

What\’s an election without a quasi-spiteful, barely satirical, kind of anxious, definitely eclectic music video megamix? Well let me tell you. Boring.

  2. Residents… Oh yeah… I can remember listening to the Third Reich and Roll in the 90s. The Twist was the best.

  3. Aich! Wish I’d read this a few days ago. I think this play-list calls for an after-after party.
