APEC Bin Laden – Sydney’s $300 million joke needed a bloody good punchline. Thanks Chaser arrestees, you rock!!

with 2 comments

update – check this story out and this one– the remaining members of The Chaser crew who weren’t arrested on Thursday went in today in a 3-car motorcade… made of cardboard.

Stopped. Questioned. Held. Not Charged. Released.

We don’t need the Defence Forces and Police. We just need about 140 000 Chaser trainees. That would truly be the shit. It might even solve this problem that Aussie politicians are having of trying to out-not-amused each other. Jerkovz.

Wow – Bin Laden knew he was in trouble when confronted by a riot cop, a leather cop, and a suit cop. Maybe he should have flown.

The Chaser’s War On Everything lived up to its name today – beautifully. The snipers all over Sydney must either have shitty aim or great magnification because that is one convincing-ass costume. Australia’s most participatory journos took a mini-motorcade to within about 10 metres of the hotel where Satan’s Anal Fissure (aka George Bush) is staying in Sydney. They went dressed as Canada because it seemed like a believably mini-motorcade choice to make. Perhaps also as a reference to the fact that Bin Laden is actually hiding in Canada, which everyone already knows.

They were charged and released this afternoon. Hopefully none of them will end up with the six-month jail sentences possible. Hopefully they’ll get 100 hours community service – which would mean playing 10 minutes of this footage 600 times in a public space, basically.

George Bush; Portrait of a Fuckhead

with 4 comments

This picture and story are too great not to repost. Good one, Korova. The full story is here in SpiegelOnline. British artist Jonathan Yeo got fed up with the Bush University in Texas repeatedly booking then cancelling his services to come and do a portrait of George Bush.

So he did one for free – by making a collage out of cutup pornos. Right ear – right now.

Tired of supporting viciously biased government-funded media outlets like the ABC that proclaim a concern for quality journalism but really just want to so dilute your understanding of Australia that you might end up thinking trees and social justice are good? Fret no more – some of the crew behind the all-too-awesome Chaser’s War on Everything have put together a web & print based weekly fresh out of publicational placenta. The Manic Times promises to do everything but suck. . . unless that’s what you really want it to do
by Robert Williams

An older hand of proven vision and good intentions is Richard Neville. Somehow stumbled across these pages the other day and wish i’d got there sooner.

Lots of luscious, original, and angry creativity here. Definitely good pages to spend a long time picking through and the endorsed links, writers, and artists all lead to similarly rewarding labyrinths.

But it may be that Neville is leaving his own pages undeveloped for a while to publish Home Page Daily which, in short, is a bloody terrific destination in the digital playground. Up and running for three months, I believe it’s still in beta version but it’s a Swiss Army News Blog with globally sourced climate, political, fake, angry, cynical, and cutting edge news and features in mixed media formats so you can read, watch, listen, etc. Very cool way to gauge what’s going on all over when you want to know but don’t have time.

This picture kind of sums up Blogotariat, but at the same time doesn’t at all.

It’ seems a bit shiny and new, but highly user-friendly, quite diversely assembled, and offers a good Australian lens to domestic and international news and events.

Hmm… is also non-partisan, in that it has something for everyone to like or hate lots. Is a bit of an aggregator building towards being a self-reliant web-zine for Australian webscribblers. Link-rich with a smatire.

Aussie Teen Cracks $84 Million porn filter, becomes wildly popular amongst schoolfriends.

leave a comment »

This story is hilarious. It has everything – porn, a government made to look stupid, a kid that beats the system, computer hackery… more porn.

After all the government’s huffing and puffing – both on matters of local employment and on protecting kids from the evils of an interweb built solely for the purpose of stealing their innocence – it’s a big fail for Communications Minister (and part-time fencepost) Helen Coonan.

Money spent on an imported product has been wasted when a local one (even according to the 16-year old who cracked it) would have been more effective and saved millions. It’s a bit surprising that Coonan got it so wrong.

She is just one of the many Howard stooges who has been caught by the wildly wonderful WikiScanner this week, and as such her staff should have enough experience manipulating information online that you’d think they could spot an unreliable porn filter at twenty paces. The most Coonan-related article is here.

While the ‘poo bum dicky wee wee‘ edit is one of my personal favourites, the most insightful story would probably be this one – detailing how the Department of Defense made up to 5000 Wiki edits, and how the offices of the Prime Minister and Cabinet seem to have been responsible for the rewriting of recent history on major government lies – like children overboard.

While this excerpt is informative:

WikiScanner removes much of the anonymity Wikipedia contributors have long enjoyed by tracing the unique digital fingerprint left by everybody who uses Wikipedia. It has helped uncover self-serving contributions from hundreds of sources, including the CIA, the Vatican, the Republican Party, the UN, the US Senate and the US Democratic Party’s Congressional Campaign Committee.

I think that this quote from WikiScanner’s creator is absolutely brilliant:

“My intention was to create a massive fireworks display of public relations disasters for all the world to sit back and enjoy.”

– WikiScanner’s creator, Virgil Griffith

It is hoped that Peter Costello’s nickname, ‘Captain Smirk’, shall be reWiki-ed shortly.

Thanks to Stendhalismo who always digs up the most unlikely bits of webris, here is some seriously great greatness.

The site is full of great things to make and do, including downloadable prank brochures, warning stickers for Bibles, and great Mussolini dolls that feature in the Fascist Dictator series along with both George Bushes.

Beating off round the Bush. Yay for Sydney’s APEC Fistfuck.

with 2 comments

Some newspapers and reporters are howling with rage/surprise. Apparently the APEC meeting in Sydney won’t really do anything for climate change but set more aspirational targets and encourage more patting of backs and shaking of hands amongst friends of miners, oil billionaires and aluminium smelters.

Golly! You mean that the APEC ads are full of shit and that these guys are really just meeting to better co-ordinate their plans to fuck over populations and planet? I would never have guessed. I mean, as soon as they hired the ditzy talking head former news anchor Anne Fulwood to be the spokesperson on matters such as globalization, terrorism, and the environment, I felt this warm glow.

You know – the warm glow that these world leaders and their convention centre bitches are getting the message. The people aren’t stupid. They want respect, answers, and honesty. As opposed to dumbfuck candy-ass Barbie brains mouthing empty platitudes to a soundtrack of neoconservatives slamming each other’s cocks in limousine doors while a banker sodomises a 7-year old war orphan with an M-16.

I support APEC. I’ll be there cheering every golden wink-wink-nudge-nudge. I will believe every good thing the newspapers and Channel 10 report from their press kits. I will get angry at the protesters who use the tactical advantage of being skinny, unarmed, beaten and arrested to disrupt an otherwise wonderful moment in the evolution of democracy.

I support APEC coming to Sydney. I AM APECKER.

Because filthy cosmic anti-war eco-fascists have had it soooo easy for soooo long

with one comment

Thank God that people in suits, ties, and designer skirts and overcoats have finally had the courage to take to the streets. When they scream “who’s streets? our streets!” it’s not so much a protest as a statement of fact. Macquarie Bank and Toll Group each sent a few of their clerks along, you see. What else would you shout when protesting a theology which really faces no threat apart from physics and nihilism?

“meetings are murder!”

“modified by multinational forces, hooray for assholes on the backs of horses!”

“the workers – united – will never be able to read this” (said while gesturing to template for AWA 2008, the stupid-bloody-voter remix).

Just got sent these by a mate. Guessing the original was written by a British male backpacking in Australia while reconciling self with homophobic tendencies BUT is still pretty damned funny. Please feel free to use in a sentence or leave your own. My own word for the week is Calenged (adj): dysfunctional relationship with calendar, may extend to diaries and clocks.

New Words for 2007

SALAD DODGER: An overweight person.
BLAMESTORMING: Sitting round in a group, discussing why a deadline was missed or a
Project failed, and who was responsible.
SITCOMs: Single Income, Two Children, Oppressive Mortgage. What yuppies turn
into when they have children and one of them stops working to stay home with the kids or start a “home business”. Read the rest of this entry »

This is the month it has to turn around. The Federal Greens have their hands full, given that Australia’s run by ecological nonces, but this month is going to be a parliamentary, judicial, and media battlefield.

What a great start from one of my favourite Senators, and that’s globally.

It’s a good excuse to share one of the most beautiful bits of longform music video I’ve ever seen. Although you no doubt share my disdain for decimophilia, please oblige your ears, eyes, brain and soul with this little celebration feast.

Tasmanian Pulp Mill – Raverty dishes on Lennon’s dirt unit.

leave a comment »

This is a response by Warwick Raverty to a fantastic article in Tasmanian Times. It’s too good not to reprint – I particularly enjoyed his forward-looking nitrogen re-dispersal projection.

Response to Lindsay Tuffin’s “We Are Watching You“, by Dr. Warwick Raverty.

I have been defamed by the Lenningrad dirt unit and I wear it as a badge of honour. I am happy to be called ‘a rabbit’ and ‘a clown’ by Doug Parkinson MLC, someone full of shit by Jim Cox MHA, a mere cardboard boxmaker by John Gay and Terry Edwards if it means a chance of preventing the environmental and social defilement of one of the most beautiful valleys in Australia.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen of the parliamentary ALP and Liberal parties, Launceston and Hobart are small places and everyone is watching YOU and your debauched and improprietous acts. History will judge you and when you are dead and buried, men and women of goodwill will take their granchildren to the cemeteries in which you are buried to piss on your graves for the entire life of this pulp mill if it is built in the Tamar.

In the meantime all those of us who can still lie straight in bed at nights should perhaps get tee-shirts printed – ‘Vilified by John-Paul and Proud of It – 75,000 Tasmanians Can’t be Wrong’. Ms Neales, McCann, Nettelfold, Jackson and Buckfield and Messers Denholm, Bevilacqua, Stedman and Tuffin can all wear gold bars on their tee-shirts as far as I’m concerned, for they are the bullwarks against ‘BULL’ in Tasmania.

All fair-minded Australians should be proud of them.

As Rudyard Kipling said, ‘If you can bear to hear the truth you’ve spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools…..’

On Monday I am going to apply to the ACCC to force the Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet to rename itself the ‘Department of Knaves and Fools’ under the misleading advertising provisions of the Federal Consumer Protection Act. Anyone want to join me?
